Indigofera tinctoria plant nursery
propagated by seed

The plant need about 3 months to grow
before it can be harvested

Leaves are cut into pieces
to facilitate the fermentation process

Leaves are weighed to find out
how much indigo paste that can be produced

Leaves are soaked in water with a ballast,
so it won’t float

After 24 hours, the leaves are filtered
to separate water immersion

Mixing lime solution into the fermentation, repeated oxidation will turn the color into blue

After getting the blue color,
the paste will then go through
a screening process

The paste are dissolved
with brown sugar and lime solution,
it is now ready to be used for dyeing

The cloth that has been dyed
will need to be air dried

The aerated cloth will change color
from yellow to green and then into blue
because of oxidation

After dyeing 15-20 times,
the cloth needs to be boiled
to remove wax from the fabric,
before it is ready to be used
